Not to get too lurketty on up in your face, but I really admire how often you challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. You have a recognizable style - if you were a writer, I would call your "voice" - distinguishable right away among even the very good artists here on deviant; but even so, you seem to be always engaged in a conversation with yourself about what sort of art you make.

I see this, obviously, in the way you switch between mediums and styles of rendering, but also in the way your characters feel about themselves. I've really enjoyed some of your past work with Beardsley echoes - I'm thinking in particular of that little story drawing of the two men getting ready to go out. In those pictures, your characters are full of poses and self-contained beauty. Even your more recent Barbier-inspired SH picture imagines the same sorts of careful, self-conscious subjects.

In contrast, the Holmes and Watson in this picture are not posing, are not aware of themselves; Holmes probably isn't aware of the intent expression he's making, and neither men engage the viewer. Their outlines are thick, and the overall effect is cartoony. Within your own theme, you've created a variation.

There is a separation between the subjects and the background which I find jolting. I know this is probably just drawn for amusement, and as a thank you to your 300th or whateverth follower, but I quite like the background, and I quite like the muted rainbow gradation, so it's disappointing to feel as though you attached the characters and the background without much thought. See how the edge of Watson's hair follows the same line as the water coming up on the shore just behind it? That distracts my eye and confuses my sense of distance.

Possssibly too long a critique for a fun whateverth-follower drawing, but there you go! Long time lurker, creeping out from the shadows!
